Nine students from the School of Education & Human Development and Shenandoah Conservatory who are enrolled in the teacher preparation program have been nominated by faculty to represent Shenandoah at the Teacher of Promise (TOP) Institute March 25 and 26 at James Madison University. Candice Batlle, Simon Daum, Danielle Hanrahan, Leah Hawkins, Anakristen Jones, Andrew Manning, Kyle Masson, Lynn Mawia, Katie Pifer and Keri Reid will join other education students from 23 Virginia institutions.
Participants selected by their universities for Teachers of Promise represent Virginia's most promising and gifted pre-service educators. They exhibit strong commitment to the teaching profession and exemplify the traits necessary for a truly exemplary career in public education. At the TOP Institute, each participant will be assigned a mentor who will work with them throughout the weekend and who will continue to serve as a source of advice, assistance and guidance to help them make a successful transition to the classroom.
"The TOP institute offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet with other future teachers, attend a variety of workshops, and establish contacts that past participants have kept for years," said Dr. H. Jurgen Combs of the School of Education & Human Development.
