Shenandoah University is ranked 31st among master’s level institutions in the south region on U.S. News & World Report’s list of America’s Best Colleges for 2010. Shenandoah was ranked 39th in this category last year.
Shenandoah University is also on the magazine's list of "Top Up-and-Coming Schools" of 77 colleges and universities nationwide that "were singled out as schools that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus or facilities." Within the up-and-coming schools listing, Shenandoah is ranked 13th among master's universities in the south region and is one of only five Virginia institutions on the list.
"This designation is a testament to the hard work and accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students and graduates. I'm so proud of this ranking and recognition in the national arena of higher education."
- Shenandoah University President, Tracy Fitzsimmons
"I am thrilled that Shenandoah was honored once again as one of the south's best colleges and especially excited we have been included within such a select group of schools from across the nation as "up-and-coming," said Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons. "This designation is a testament to the hard work and accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students and graduates. I'm so proud of this ranking and recognition in the national arena of higher education."
A total of 572 universities are included in the universities-master's segment of U.S. News' college rankings. Institutions in the category provide a full range of undergraduate and master's programs, but few, if any, doctoral programs. Schools in the universities-master's section are ranked within four geographic areas – North, South, Midwest and West. The rankings for the colleges and universities in Shenandoah's category are based on peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
The September 2009 issue of U.S. News & World Report, which includes highlights of the college rankings, will go on sale Monday, Aug. 24. The 2010 America's Best Colleges guidebook will go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 25.
