Internet Access Policy for Community Users and Friends of the Library

The Smith Library welcomes local researchers, area college students, alumni and travelers passing through Winchester, who wish to use library computers, under the following conditions:   

  • Shenandoah University students, faculty and staff always have first priority in using library computer workstations, as with other University resources.
  • Appropriate computer use includes academic research and email, but not operating a computer-based business, viewing pornography, or for any illegal and unethical purpose.
  • Community Users are limited to one/half hour (30 minutes) of computer usage each day.
  • Only main floor public computers are available for use.  The Health Sciences Library does not have public use computers.
  • Users must present identification, complete a registration form and sign-in/sign-out on the form provided.  Library staff will login users to our network.
  • Printing charges are $0.10 per page.
  • We are unable to provide wireless access or remote access to library resources.
  • Users are assumed to have basic computer skills.
  • Shenandoah University does not use software to filter access to the Internet.
