Performing Arts Live is a unique guest artist series sponsored by Shenandoah University that brings world-class cultural offerings to the Northern Shenandoah valley. Diversified professional and award-winning artists present performances that enrich the soul and inspire the mind through vocal, instrumental and dance concerts representing early to contemporary and global-music genres. There are many returning favorites as well as several new performers debuting this season.
The first concert kicks off September 11 at 8 p.m. with the Audubon Quartet presenting the first of six concerts featuring the Beethoven String Quartet Cycle for violins, viola and cello.
The World of Piano series featuring five outstanding piano performances with the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, Jeanne Stark Lochmann, Finghin Collin, Paul Roberts, and returning Distinguished Visiting Artist John O'Conor.
The Audubon Quartet series featuring Shenandoah's own quartet-in-residence presenting the first of six concerts featuring the Beethoven String Quartet Cycle for violins, viola and cello.
The Visiting Artist series features the Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra with Distinguished Visiting Artist John O'Conor; an evening of Spanish and Italian love songs featuring Apollo's Fire, considered one of the most enterprising early music ensembles in the nation today; the new-music stylings of Grammy Award-winning eighth blackbird; an evening of lute music with Ronn McFarlane; returing by popular demand, the Grammy Award-winning vocal group Chanticleer; and the critically acclaimed Chicago dance company NATYA will perform the great classical dance forms of India.
