Language Program Events

The English Language Program
(ELP) staff, faculty and American student-teaching assistants
help the international students here experience many American
customs by celebrating holidays and by giving them many
opportunities to be involved in the life of our local community.
Throughout the
year, ELC students have the opportunity to
participate in many different activities such as:
-
Going on
hiking and boating day trips.

Participating
in International Day.
-
Attending
functions of the International Club.
-
Watching
movies in the International Cross-Cultural Center.

Regularly
scheduled day trips to surrounding places
of interest such as Washington, D.C.,
Shenandoah National Park and factory
outlet shopping centers. - Going to ELC Lab Nights.
Teaching assistants organize activities such as watching
movies, playing board games, computer lessons and watching
American TV programs such as "Friends." After
watching these programs, the teaching assistants help
the students understand the slang and cultural differences
they witnessed during the program.
- Regularly scheduled day
trips to surrounding places of interest such as Washington,
D.C., Shenandoah National Park and factory outlet shopping
centers.
- Holiday parties for Halloween,
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and the local Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.
- Going to a local book fair
where students may purchase books at low prices.
- A private instructional
program where students receive one-on-one English lessons
with an American student-teaching assistant.
