Facilities and Collections

The Library collections of Shenandoah University are housed in two facilities. The Alson H. Smith, Jr. Library, located in the center of the Winchester campus, is the main library facility for the University. The branch Health Sciences Library is located in the Health Professions Building on the grounds of the Winchester Medical Center. Current total holdings number more than 275,000 items, including 131,000 books and bound journals, 13,000 recordings, 16,000 scores, 1,500 videotapes and 115,000 ERIC documents. The University has access to more than 32,000 print and electronic journals contained in more than 80 Internet-accessible databases. While the Library's primary constituency is the students and faculty of the University, the Library facilities, including the Media Center, are open to the general public.

Subject disciplines represented in the Smith Library are music, business, literature, history, education, psychology, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, religion, philosophy and sociology. Most materials in occupational therapy and physical therapy are also located in the Smith Library.

The Smith Library also houses the Media Center, a computer lab, the Children's Literature Center, and most library staff offices. Seating for 340 is available in a variety of spaces over four floors.

The Health Sciences Library collections include books, serials and visual media that support programs in Pharmacy, Nursing, Respiratory Care, and Physician Assistant studies. Seating for 40 is available.

Smith Library Hours

During the Fall and Spring semesters, the Smith Library is normally open during the following hours:

Sunday	1:00 pm - 12 midnight
Monday - Thursday	8:00 am - 12 midnight
Friday	8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Saturday	10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Health Sciences Library Hours

During the Fall and Spring semesters, the Health Sciences Library is normally open during the following hours:

Monday - Thursday	8:00 am - 10:00 pm
Friday	8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday	10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sunday	1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
