Shenandoah University Conservatory reaches out to the community by offering various special programs throughout the year and during the summer.

Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre was founded by its Producing Artistic Director, Harold Herman. He wanted to provide affordable family entertainment in the community of Winchester/Frederick County as well as give Shenandoah Musical Theatre students more opportunities to perform, before venturing out to pursue their own careers.  SSMT produces four Broadway musicals each summer in the beautiful 630-seat Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. Thirteen performances are given of each musical over a two-week period drawing audiences from a 150-mile radius with groups traveling in from as far away as Ohio and North Carolina.

Shenandoah University's CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute was created to meet the demand for training grounded in voice science, voice medicine, and tested methods of contemporary commercial music (CCM) vocal pedagogy. We continue to be the first and only institution to include courses in CCM vocal pedagogy for academic credit in a graduate degree program. The best and the brightest voice professionals from all vocal disciplines worldwide, have been drawn to the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute for the past seven summers and have high praise for its worthiness

The Church Music Institute (CMI) offers church music leaders valuable resources, hands on experience, and one-on-one training. During CMI, church music leaders can earn credits toward a degree or certificate, explore a wide variety of music types and worship resources, receive personal attention from clinicians made possible by the small setting, and learn from nationally known church music leaders. The primary emphasis for 2011 is on children in worship, however, participants will also learn to successfully lead adult volunteer choirs, plan worship, and ring handbells.

The National Jazz Workshop sets a new standard of excellence for students, educators and performers who are serious about learning and mastering the language of the definitive American art form, Jazz. Held on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, the National Jazz Workshop offers an intensive, fully comprehensive curriculum for jazz studies to include improvisation, big band and small-group performance, composition, arranging, music recording and production, and instrumental master classes. This workshop is inspired by the legendary Stan Kenton Jazz Camp model, first held in 1959 at Indiana University, where, as Kenton would say, students would "take a bath in jazz."
