Professional Highlights

  • Michael Murray Bunn has been a member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra for more than thirty years. The KCOHO is also recognized as the official ensemble for the Washington National Opera, Placido Domingo, General Director. A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Mr. Bunn was the first to receive both a BM and MM in tuba performance from the Peabody Conservatory, located in Baltimore, Maryland. He has studied with David Bragunier, Arnold Jacobs, Warren Deck and Edward Whitfield. For years, he has been recognized as first-call for the Washington-Baltimore area freelance scene. Demonstrating versatility, he has been engaged by the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, been on stage with such orchestras as the Concertgebouw, Orchestra Nationale de France, Bolshoi Opera, Paris Opera, Kirov Opera, and has performed in chamber recital with world renowned flutist, Jean Pierre Rampal. Mr. Bunn has played under such luminaries as Seiji Ozawa, Sir Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, Leonard Bernstein, Bernard Haitink, Andre Previn, Valery Gergiev and Michael Tilson Thomas. In addition to working in the pit at KC, Mr. Bunn is also a member of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. He has taught at most of the major universities and colleges in the DC region. Currently, in addition to his studio at SU, he is on the faculties of Howard University and Towson University.
