Muslim, Jewish and Christian Women Discuss Peace Between Israelis and Palestinians at Shenandoah University, Oct. 6

A touring group of three women offer perspectives on building peace between Israelis and Palestinians - Halpin-Harrison Hall, Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.

A touring group of three women –a Palestinian Christian, an Israeli Jew and a Palestinian Muslim –will make a stop at Shenandoah University’s Stimpson Auditorium in Halpin-Harrison Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. to offer perspectives on building peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The event, “Jerusalem Women Speak: Three Women, Three Faiths, One Shared Vision,”is free and open to the public.

The presenters are Jala Basil Andoni, a Palestinian Christian retired teacher from Beit Sahour near Jerusalem; Ruth El-Raz, an Israeli Jewish psychotherapist, artist and political activist from Jerusalem; and Hekmat Besisso, a Palestinian Muslim community trainer in nonviolence from Ramallah.

Each woman has witnessed decades of Israeli-Palestinian violence and the intermittent attempts to rekindle peace talks. Together, they have made a commitment to share with American audiences how this conflict has affected them and their families, their work for a peaceful future and what must be done to make peace possible.

Partners for Peace, a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to helping bring about a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, arranged the tour that will travel around the East Coast from October 3 –25. This is the 16th Jerusalem Women Speak Tour organized by Partners for Peace since 1998.

The event is sponsored by Shenandoah University’s Department of Religion, Women's Studies Program, Office of Spiritual Life and Office of Global and Community Education as well as its Amnesty International chapter and the Valley Interfaith Council.
