Freshman Pre-Health Requirements

Fast-Track, Pre-Admit to the Graduate Programs

Freshman applicants are eligile to be considered for "fast track" Pre-Admit status. When a student is Pre-Admitted, he/she is guaranteed a non-competitive seat at the graduate level in the program he/she has been accepted for. If a student fails to maintain the outlined criteria, the guaranteed seat will become competitive. The priority deadline for all Pre-Admit programs is February 1. *Students are first accepted to Shenandoah University and then notified if they qualify to be considered for Pre-Admit.

Requirements to be Pre-Admitted into a graduate program:

Pharmacy (12 seats)

  • High School GPA: minimum 3.5
  • SAT: 1200 (Combined score of Critical Reading and Math), ACT: 27
  • Pass Interview with the School of Pharmacy
    At SU, Must Maintain:
    • A minimum GPA of 3.25.
    • Successfully complete 65 hours of prerequisite coursework.
    • Complete the Pharmacy College Aptitude Test (PCAT) with a score in the 70th percentile or greater.
    • Submit a Graduate Application for Admission to the Doctorate of Pharmacy program.
    • Submit favorable recommendations from the Dean of the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy or his designee, two letters of recommendation from Shenandoah University faculty, and one letter of support from a healthcare provider.

Physical Therapy  (10 seats)

  • High School GPA: minimum 3.5
  • SAT: 1100 (Combined score of Critical Reading and Math), ACT: 24
  • Complete 50 hours of documented observation with a licensed Physical Therapist.
    Submit observation hours and essay response prior to February 1. Essay questions will be sent out after the student is accepted to the university and it is determined the student meets the GPA and SAT requirements for Pre-Admit.
    At SU, Must Maintain:
    • A minimum GPA of 3.4 in prerequisite courses
    • Successfully complete a minimum of 90 hours of coursework (including 41 credit hours of prerequisite coursework).
    • Complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit scores to Shenandoah University.
    • Submit documentation of 100 hours volunteer/observation experience minimum, from a variety of settings.
    • Submit an application through PTCAS for admissions to the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program during the final semester of undergraduate study. An application fee will apply.
    • Submit 2 favorable recommendations: 1 from a professional in the field of Physical Therapy, and 1 from a Shenandoah University professor

Occupational Therapy (10 seats) 

  • High School GPA: minimum 3.3
  • SAT: minimum 1000 (Combined score of Critical Reading and Math), ACT: 22
  • Pass Interview with an Occupational Therapy faculty member
    At SU, Must Maintain:
    • 3.0 GPA in prerequisite courses.
    • Complete all general educaton and psychology coursework. 
    • Submit official documentation of a minimum of 24 hours observation of an Occupational Therapist at work.
    • Submit application for admission through OTCAS during the fall semester of junior year.
    • Submit 2 favorable recommendations and completed recommendation forms from two of the following: a licensed occupational therapist, employer, or professor.
    • Submit an essay per the requirements listed on the graduate Occupational Therapy website.

Athletic Training (10 seats)

  • High School GPA: 3.2
  • SAT: 1000 (Combined score of Critical Reading and Math), ACT: 22
  • Pass Interview with an Athletic Training faculty member
    At SU, Must Maintain:
    • 3.2 GPA in prerequisite courses
    • Complete 95 hours of general education and prerequisite coursework
    • Complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit scores to Shenandoah University.
    • Submit documentation of successful sport / student athletic training experiences to the Division of Athletic Training.
    • Submit Graduate application, three favorable recommendations, and essay stating personal reasons for becoming an athletic trainer to the Graduate Office of Admissions.
