Costs/Financial Aid

Financial Aid is an integral part of the enrollment process. Shenandoah maintains a strong financial-aid program to help as many deserving students as possible. Financial aid is awarded according to an individual’s need and merit in relation to college costs. Aid usually consists of scholarships, grants, loans and employment through the work-study program.

Two things have to happen before you can be awarded financial aid at SU:

1. You must be an “accepted student” at Shenandoah University; and

2. You must have applied for financial aid at Shenandoah University.

Here’s how you apply for financial aid at SU:

  1. Complete the FAFSA. To receive aid from the federal government, students and parents must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Shenandoah’s FAFSA Code is: 003737. We recommend you do this online at www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
  2. Residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia should complete the VTAG (Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant) application.
  3. Students who are members of the United Methodist Church should complete an application for a United Methodist Scholarship.
  4. ***Your family may choose NOT to complete the FAFSA or VTAG. If you choose not to complete these applications, you can STILL be considered for non-federal Shenandoah University grants and scholarships by stating your intentions in a letter or e-mail to the Director of Financial Aid. E-mail requests for SU financial aid can be sent to: The Office of Financial Aid, Attention: Director at: FinAid@su.edu.
