Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

science lab

The Chemistry program prepares students for graduate study in chemistry; further studies in health-related occupations such as pharmacy, medicine, and dentistry; teaching in secondary schools; and for a wide variety of chemistry-related positions in industry and government, including quality control, environmental control, production supervision and research and development. The program provides experience and background for students studying biological or environmental science. Development of comprehension, expertise and hands-on skills occur in a supportive laboratory-based environment and culminate in an individualized research project.

The Chemistry Department offers specific chemistry courses, which provide the knowledge necessary for the following majors:

  • Chemistry
  • Other natural sciences (biology and environmental study)
  • Health-related disciplines (pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing and respiratory care, etc.)
  • Elementary and secondary education
  • All other non-science fields

The Chemistry Department offers students doing research the opportunities to:

  • Expand and apply the fundamental knowledge and scientific method to problem solving
  • Develop skills in collaboration
  • Become professional scientists.

The Department is committed to providing each undergraduate student with the opportunity to present his/her research results at local, regional and/or national science meetings.

The academic advising mission includes three aspects:

  • Help students achieve their undergraduate academic goals.
  • Counsel students choosing graduate programs.
  • Help students to achieve their careers goals.
