On behalf of the faculty and staff of the College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University, welcome to our Web site. The College supports the university's mission "to prepare individuals to be critical, reflective thinkers, lifelong learners, and ethical, compassionate citizens committed to making responsible contributions within a community, a nation, and the world" through its liberal arts programs. A liberal arts education empowers individuals to gain broad knowledge, transferrable skills and a strong sense of values, ethics, and civil engagement. The College of Arts and Sciences blends this liberal arts base with pre-professional course-work in order to prepare students for careers in the natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities to meet the needs of an ever-changing economy. Through academic experiences, students demonstrate their abilities to write, speak, think, and use technology to solve problems, think critically, and make informed decisions. In carrying out this program we seek to arouse in our students an awareness of the need for a lifelong commitment to learning; to encourage our students to develop a comprehensive view of their educational experiences, regardless of their vocational interests or majors; and to assist students in exploring the career and advanced educational opportunities available to them. The College of Arts and Sciences offers to its students "the best professional education for today...and tomorrow."
