Apple Country Head Start

Description

Apple Country Head Start is a comprehensive, federally funded program that serves children ages 3-5 and their families that fall within the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Head Start has many components to its program including, Family and Community Partnerships, Health, Mental Health, Nutrition, Disabilities, and Education. Nine classrooms throughout Frederick and Clarke counties and Winchester City operate on a half-day schedule, 4 days a week, Monday-Thursday, providing activities that encourage mental well-being, healthy eating habits, healthy lifestyles, and developmentally appropriate activities centered on social/emotional development, physical health and development, language and literacy, creative arts, math, and science.

Availability

  • 0-3 positions depending on site need
  • Offered in both Fall and Spring semesters

Special Prerequisites

  • Completion of Child Development (PSY 220) and Psychology in the Classroom (PSY 325) courses

Expectations and Requirements

  • 120 hours completed at site
  • Twice monthly meetings with Psychology faculty contact
  • 4- to 6-page reflection paper describing practicum experiences and how you were able to apply psychological principles to personal, social and organizational issues encountered during your placement
  • Completion of "Supervisor and Site Assessment" form
