Service-Learning
The Center for Public Service and Scholarship conducted a workshop with Shenandoah University Faculty to infuse Service-Learning in their classrooms. Service-Learning engages students in the educational process, using what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life problems. Students become contributing community members through the service they perform. They are also encouraged to reflect on the experience by thinking, discussing, and writing about their service.
Leadership by Design Summer Program
Every summer 30 students from 10 area high schools attend this program. Former students have praised the program's impact on their lives! Dr. Karen Schultz says, " It is designed to pique self awareness of their leadership skills, citizenship, and public service."
In April of 2007, the John Marsh Institute for Government and Public Policy, a remarkably successful organization at Shenandoah for some ten years, became the Institute for Government and Public Service. In July of 2009, it became The Center for Public Service and Scholarship.
