Shenandoah University offers 16 intercollegiate sports, eight for men and eight for women. SU plays in one of the toughest Division III Conferences in the nation, the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Dixie is comprised of seven schools in Virginia and North Carolina and features an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in all sports.

Shenandoah Athletics is undergoing a period of dynamic change. In addition to a new intercollegiate football program in 2000 and women's field hockey in 2001, we're currently upgrading our facilities with an athletic fieldhouse, which will open in August 2000 and a 3000-seat stadium for football, lacrosse and field hockey. Currently under construction, the athletic fieldhouse will provide much needed space for our expanding football, men's and women's lacrosse and women's field hockey programs with a 1700-square foot training room and 2400-square foot weight room. The new stadium is scheduled to open for the 2001 football season.

Mission Statement

Intercollegiate athletics at Shenandoah University are played on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Level in the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (DIAC) and strictly follow all the guidelines set by the NCAA and the DIAC. The Board of Trustees has endorsed the following statement of philosophy:

Shenandoah is committed to over all quality of the educational experience offered to its students. Shenandoah recognizes that integration of objectives and programs in athletics and academics provides opportunity to strengthen their developmental objectives, and also integration with other students. Participants in athletics receive the same treatment as other students.

The athletic programs are committed to postive competitive participation for the students, adhering strictly to the principles of fair play and amateur ahtletic compliance with rules and regulations of the NCAA. The support provided by the university for each sport is determined by the participant's interest. Shenandoah students are assured the opportunity to reach high levels of performance by being provided adequate facilities, competent coaching and quality competition.
