Men's and Women's Tennis Coach
West Liberty State '98
Year at Shenandoah: 1st
Shenandoah
University's newest coach is Kimberly Scruton, who joined the
department in January 2006 as the fourth full-time tennis coach in
school history.
Scruton took over
the position from Steve Soliday, who resigned in October 2005 to pursue
private business interests. She became the fourth full-time tennis
coach in Shenandoah history when she took the position just prior to
the start of the 2006 spring season.
Scruton led the women
Hornets to their best ever finish in USA South Conference play in
2006 - SU finished third in the regular season with a 5-2 mark and
advanced to the conference tournament semi-finals before being
eliminated by eventual champion Christopher Newport. Additionally,
she had four student-athletes: Doug Nilsen, Colleen Hightower,
Dominique Grayson and Michelle Chandler, earn All-USA South honors.
A 1998 graduate of
West Liberty State, Scruton won three WVIAC tennis championships for
the Hilltoppers and competed in the 1996 NCAA Division II National
Tournament. Following her graduation, she moved onto Central
Michigan, where she earned a master’s degree in sports
administration in 2000.
From 2000 until 2005,
Scruton ran Lansing (Mich.) High School travel tennis program while
also working as a tennis teaching profession at various tennis
facilities throughout Michigan. She also worked as the marketing
director with The Summit, a multi-sport complex in Lansing.
