Men’s Basketball

Head Coach: Rob Harris

Overall Record: 5-6 Dixie Conference Record: 0-0

The men's basketball team returned to action this past Saturday with a 69-64 loss to Cabrini College. SU fell to under .500 for the first time all season and four the fourth straight game as coach Rob Harris' club turned the ball over 25 times, including 14 in the first half. Senior Ted Davis (Clifton Forge, Va./Allegheny) had 18 points and juniors Craig Shelton (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) and Ronald Merriwether (Frankfurt, Germany/Giessen American) 14 and 12, respectively. Sophomore Michael Atkins (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had a team high seven rebounds in his first SU start. The men open Dixie Conference play this weekend with a pair of home contests. The Hornets host No.7 in the nation Christopher Newport on Saturday and then come right back with NC Wesleyan on Sunday. Both games start at 4:00 and are the backend of doubleheaders with the women.

Women’s Basketball

Overall Record: 4-4 Dixie Conference Record: 0-0

The women's basketball team was more successful in its return to action this past week; the women defeated Mary Baldwin College 83-66 on Saturday to get back to the .500 mark on the year. Senior Carrie Weimer (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and sophomore Adina Trammel (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) led five players in double figures with 14 points apiece. Freshman Stephanie Roberts (Winchester, Va./James Wood) had 12 while Wendy Legge (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) and Christine LaTouche (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) both had 10. Trammel led the way on the boards; she just missed her third double-double of the season with nine rebounds. This week the women travel to Chowan College on Monday before opening Dixie Conference play over the weekend with Christopher Newport and NC Wesleyan. Game times on both Saturday and Sunday is 2:00 and both games are part of doubleheaders with the men.
