Men’s Basketball

Head Coach: Rob Harris

Overall Record: 5-8 Dixie Conference Record: 0-2

The men's basketball team lost both of its games this past week, to fall to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in Dixie Conference play. On Saturday, the Hornets trailed No. 9 in the nation NC Wesleyan by just four at the break, 42-38, but then shot an anemic 9 for 38 (23.7 percent) from the field in the second half. Junior Craig Shelton (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) led coach Robert Harris’ club with a career high 25 points. Senior Ted Davis (Clifton Forge, Va./Allegheny) and junior Ronald Merriwether (Frankfurt, Germany/Giessen American) each add 12 in the loss. Harris' club had numerous chances in Sunday's Dixie game with NC Wesleyan, but came up on the short end of a 64-59 score. The Hornets shooting woes continued in the game; SU shot just 20-63 (31.7 percent) in the contest. Senior Jeff Miller (Millersville, Md./Anne Arundel CC) had 17 points, Merriwether 13 and freshman Chad Brashears (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) 11 in the losing effort. Davis had a team high 11 rebounds. This week Shenandoah has three road games in five days. The Hornets will play at Villa Julie College on Wednesday in a non-league game before taking on Methodist and Greensboro over the weekend in a pair of Dixie Conference contests.
