LEXINGTON
,
Va.
- The SU women’s
basketball team was unable to pick up its second win as many days
Sunday afternoon as Washington & Lee defeated the Hornets 65-45 in
non-league action.
Shenandoah (4-15) was seeking
to add to a winning streak that started with Saturday’s 78-62 Dixie
Conference victory at
Averett
University
.
Unfortunately, W&L (10-10) used a 43 point second half to break
open a close game and cruise to the 20-point victory.
The Hornets trailed by just
one at the break, 22-21, before the Lady Generals pulled away in the
final 20 minutes. SU helped its hosts out by shooting just 9 for 28
(32.1 percent) after the intermission; this is in stark contrast to
the 10 for 22 (45.5 percent) performance in the first.
Sophomore Shannda Gaskins (
Falls
Church
,
Va.
/McLean)
led the Hornets with 14 points and a career high 13 rebounds while
senior Wendy Legge continued her march toward 1000 career points with
another 11.
