Men’s Basketball Sweeps Honors

FAYETTEVILLE , N.C. – The SU men’s basketball team swept Dixie Conference Athlete of the Week honors in selections announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Senior Ronald Merriwether ( Frankfurt , Germany /Giessen American) was named Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks after he helped the Hornets to two wins in two games. Merriwether averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds last week as SU upset No. 9 Christopher Newport 73-58 and then blew out Averett 74-45.

Freshman Alan Oglesby ( Manassas , Va. /Osbourn) earned his first ever Rookie of the Week award as he scored 11 points in those two contests. Oglesby helped the Hornets in the CNU win with a pair of three-pointers in three attempts.

Merriwether and Oglesby will return to action with their teammates Wednesday evening at Ferrum College .
