WINCHESTER
,
Va.
– Senior Wendy Legge (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) became the 12th
member of the SU women’s basketball 1000 point club Thursday
night, but it was not enough as the Hornets fell 86-63 to NAIA
Southern Virginia.
Shenandoah (4-19) found itself
down by 18 heading into the halftime lockerroom as the Lady Knights
(15-10) scorched the nets for 47 points on 20 of 49 shooting (40.8
percent). Senior Rosaline Fisher (
Greencastle
,
Pa.
/Hagerstown
CC) chipped in with seven points to try and keep the hosts close,
but SU hampered its own cause by turning the ball over 14 times.
Fortunately for Head Coach
Kathy Orsini, Legge caught fire in the final 20 minutes of play. She
scored 17 of her 21 points following the intermission and cracked
the 1000 point barrier on a layup with
3:18
remaining.
Legge is the becomes the
latest addition to a group that has not grown in number since
Christal Awkward ’00 cracked the barrier at the end of the 2000
season. Legge is now 27 points behind Awkward for 11th
place on the all-time list.
In addition to Legge’s 21,
Fisher and freshman Heather Lethbridge (
Belvidere
, N.J./Belvidere)
both had 10. Liz Weber led SVC with 25.
