MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (March 1,
2001) - The Shenandoah University baseball team
was unable to extend its winning streak to three
games Thursday afternoon, losing 9-1 to Division
II Georgia State College and University at John
Kurtz Field in Milledgeville, Ga.
Shenandoah (2-2) scored its
only run of the game in its final at-bat of the
contest. With one out, junior Tommy Delaney (Fairfax
Station, Va./Hayfield) reached on a fielders
choice and moved to second on an error by second
baseman Jason Samples. Classmate Shane Lloyd (Alexandria,
Va./Hayfield) then drove home Delaney with a
double to left. For Lloyd, the RBI came on his
team-leading fourth double of the season.
GCSU (9-6) ruined the
opener of the Hornets six game Spring Break trip
to Georgia and Florida by scoring one run in the
second and three more in the third to take a
commanding 4-0 lead. All four runs came off of SU
starter Chris Kees (Gore, Va./James Wood), who
fell to 1-1 on the year after giving up seven
runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 6.2
innings. Kees also struck out two.
