FORT
MYERS
,
Fla.
– The Shenandoah University baseball team continues to struggle in
its early season games as the Hornets fell to 2-9 Monday afternoon
with a 13-9 loss to Penn State-Behrend at the Gene Cusic Tournament
in Fort
Myers.
SU has lost six straight since defeating
Franklin
& Marshall
College
4-2 on February 23.
The Hornets lost Monday’s contest, their
fourth in
Florida,
despite banging out 17 hits and a season high nine runs. Errors once
again hurt SU; coach Justin Cronk’s squad committed a season high
nine in the loss. Those nine errors led to eight unearned runs for
PSU-Behrend (1-2).
Sophomore Tyler Daniel (Richmond,
Va./JR
Tucker) and freshmen Matt MacDonald (Virginia Beach,
Va./Princess
Anne) and Paul Diggs (Waynesboro,
Va./Waynesboro)
all had three hits on
the day Hornets. Diggs and Daniel combined to drive in seven of the
Hornets nine runs with four and three RBI, respectively.
Monday’s loss comes on the heels of a
6-4 loss to Concordia (Ill.)
on Sunday and a 2-0 loss to
Albion
(Mich.)
Saturday afternoon. Shenandoah opened the tournament Friday evening
with a 10-5 loss to Dominican (Ill.)
University.
MacDonald continues to swing the hot bat
for the Hornets; he has had at least two hits in every game down in
Florida
and is now hitting a team high .471.
