FORT MYERS , Fla. – The Shenandoah University baseball team snapped its six game losing streak Tuesday morning with a 7-1 win over Malone at the Gene Cusic Tournament.

Freshman Mike McVearry (Bowie , Md./South River ) improved to 2-1 on the season with the complete game victory, his second of the season. McVearry scattered five hits and three walks against three strikeouts in the seven innings; he gave up Malone’s only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the second, Shenandoah (3-9) seized control of the contest with four runs on five hits in the top of the frame.  Sophomore Rusty Crostic (Chesterfield, Va./LC Bird) had the big blow with a two-run double that scored Rodney Wooden (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) and Brent Meixell (Saylorsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley).

Shenandoah added its final two runs of the game in the top of the seventh on RBI singles from Wooden and Matt MacDonald (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne). Wooden drove in Gabe Abreu (Reinholds, Pa./Garden Spot), who led off the inning with a triple.

Wooden finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI while MacDonald continued his torrid hitting with three hits in four at-bats.
