FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 6,
2001) - The baseball team completed its five game
trek to the Gene Cusic Classic on Tuesday with a
14-1 blowout victory over Pitt-Bradford. The win
gives Shenandoah four wins in five games at the
Tournament, their best performance in four trips
to the Classic. The Hornets were 6-4 in 1998, 3-5
in '99 and 6-3 last season at the annual tourney.
SU (7-3) rode the pitching
of freshman Josh Copp (Winchester, Va./James Wood)
and senior Adam Beckerink (Lakewood, N.Y./Jamestown
CC) to gain their third straight victory. Copp
earned his first ever collegiate win with a five
inning performance that included three strikeouts
against three walks, two hits and a run.
Beckerink then pitched four scoreless innings to
pick up his first save.
Shenandoah scored the 14
runs on just nine hits; senior Jeremy Schutt (Annandale,
Va./Prince George's CC) led the way with three
hits in four at-bats and also drove in two runs.
Sophomore Chris Zaia (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was
the only other SU player with more than one hit.
