VALDOSTA, Ga. (March 7,
2001) - The baseball team was unable to stretch
its winning streak to four games Wednesday
afternoon, falling 12-3 to Division II Valdosta (Ga.)
State.
Shenandoah (7-4) committed
seven errors in the contest that led to six
unearned runs for the host Blazers. Two of those
miscues occurred in the first inning when
Valdosta (13-9) scored eight runs on five hits.
The Hornets three runs all
came in the third when Chris Zaia (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus)
led off with a single to left, moved to second on
a Shane Lloyd (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) walk and
then scored on Jake Fiedler's (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly)
single to left. After Fiedler moved to second on
a passed ball, Adam Beckerink (Lakewood, N.Y./Jamestown
CC) drove in Lloyd on a sacrifice fly. Fiedler
then scored what proved to be the visitors last
run of the game when Tony Canterna (Linthicum, Md./Anne
Arundel CC) doubled down the rightfield line.
Sophomore Seth Foster (Alexandria,Va./Hayfield)
fell to 0-1 on the year after giving up all 12
runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks
in seven innings. He also struck out four.
