GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 17, 2001) - The Shenandoah University baseball team earned his first Dixie Conference victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Greensboro College 14-4.

SU (10-6, 1-2) turned a 4-2 deficit into an 8-4 lead by scoring six runs in the third. The big blast in the inning was provided by freshman Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker), who hit his first career grand slam home run. Daniel has now his four home runs in the last three contests.

Junior Chris Kees (Gore, Va./James Wood) evened his record at 3-3 on the season with his third complete game victory of the season. Kees struck out five and gave up four runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking one. He also hit a batter.

Shenandoah banged out 18 hits in the victory. In addition to Daniel's HR, senior Tony Canterna (Linthicum, Md./Anne Arundel CC) hit his third home run of the season.

The Hornets and Pride complete the weekend series with a 3:00 Sunday contest.

WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU men's lacrosse team was unable to extend its winning streak to two Saturday afternoon as they dropped an 18-11 decision to Neumann College.

Neumann (2-1) jumped on the Hornets (1-2) for five goals in the first period and eventually extended the lead to 10-5 by halftime.

After SU scored the first two goals of the third quarter to cut the deficit to just three at 10-7, the Knights answered with six straight goals to take a commanding 16-7 lead after three.

Junior Brett Hayden (Crofton, Md.) had seven goals for Neumann while Ted Schneider (West Chester, Pa.) contributed a game high nine points on four goals and five assists.

Senior Matt Burton (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) led SU with four goals and two assists for six points. Senior Joe Krewson (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge) and sophomore Chris Keller (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) both had four points. Keller had two goals and two assists while Krewson added a goal and three assists.

Shenandoah hosts Centenary on Wednesday. Face-off is scheduled for 3:30.

Men's Tennis

WINCHESTER, Va. - The men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Christopher Newport University Saturday afternoon in the squad's first Dixie Conference match of the season. SU (0-3, 0-1) was forced to forfeit three matches due to player illness. CNU received walkover victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and as well as No. 3 doubles.

Junior John Moczydlowski (Mohannon, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 4-6 loser at No. 3 singles. He was the only player to extend his match to three sets.

The Hornets travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to face Catholic University.
