Baseball
Head Coach: Justin Cronk
Overall Record: 11-9 Dixie
Conference Record: 1-5
The baseball team won one
of three games this past week to move to 11-9
overall and 1-5 in Dixie Conference play. The
Hornets opened play on Monday by extending their
non-league winning streak to three with a 3-1
victory over Oswego (NY) State. Shenandoah scored
all three of its runs in the sixth inning; the
Hornets strung together four hits and an
intentional walk to produce the three runs.
Junior John Cowell (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) led off
the frame with a double. He came home one batter
later as designated hitter Jake Fiedler (Fairfax,
Va./Chantilly) hit a double of his own. After a
Tony Canterna (Linthicum, Md./Anne Arundel CC)
groundout and an intentional walk to third
baseman Jeremy Schutt (Annandale, Va./Prince
George's CC), SU took the lead for good when Mike
Gallagher (Springfield, Va./Hayfield) singled
home Fiedler. Coach Justin Cronk's club added an
insurance run one out later on an RBI single by
Tommy Delaney (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield).
Sophomore Seth Foster (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield)
earned his first victory of the season by
scattering five hits and one earned run over 7.2
innings. He improved his record to 1-2 with six
strikeouts against only one walk. Schutt came on
to get the final four outs of the contest to pick
up his first save of the season. He gave up just
one hit and struck out the side in the ninth. SU
then completed the week with 19-1 and 11-0 losses
to traditional Dixie Conference power Ferrum
College. Fiedler was 2 for 4 with a double and a
home run in Saturday's 19-1 loss; Adam Beckerink

Saturday performance by getting one of the
Hornets three hits on Sunday. This week,
Shenandoah travels to Washington & Lee on
Wednesday before hosting Bridgewater on Thursday
