Women’s Tennis
CHAMBERSBURG
,
Pa.
– The SU women’s tennis team got itself back on the winning
track Wednesday evening with a 7-2 non-conference victory over Wilson
College.
SU (5-3) had to forfeit one singles and one
doubles match due to the absence of No. 2 singles player Sakiko
Horikawa (Chiba, Japan/SHOWA), but swept all the staged matches to
secure its second victory in the last three matches.
Senior Jen McNeal (Verona,
Va./Fort
Defiance)
led the charge with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No.1 singles and an 8-0
victory with junior Wendy Legge (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) at the
top doubles spot.
SU dominated play, losing just seven singles
games and one doubles game in 12 combined sets.

Softball
FREDERICKSBURG,
Va.
– The women’s softball team continues to look for its first
victory this spring after
Mary
Washington
College
swept the Hornets 13-0 and 9-1 in a Wednesday non-conference
doubleheader.
SU (0-17) could muster
just five combined hits in the two games; Nikki Braithwaite (Winchester,
Va./James
Wood) had the only game one hit and then was 1 for 2 with a run
scored in the nightcap.

The Hornets will take
the rest of the week off for Easter and do not play again until
traveling to Randolph Macon Woman’s College next Monday afternoon.
Baseball
WINCHESTER,
Va.
– The baseball team also fell Wednesday afternoon;
Oswego
State
took the Hornets 12-1 in non-conference action at Bridgeforth Field.
Shenandoah (8-16) took a
1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when John Cowell (Devon,
Pa./Conestoga)
singled, stole second and then scored on Tommy Delaney’s (Fairfax
Station, Va./Hayfield) double to right.
Unfortunately, the
Lakers (1-5) answered with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth
and six in the sixth to break open the contest. Defensive woes once
again hurt SU; four of
Oswego’s
runs were unearned due to five Hornets errors.

Cowell was 2 for 5 with

Men’s Lacrosse
DOVER,
Del.
– Senior Matt Burton (Ashburn,
Va./Woodbridge)
became the Hornets all-time leading men’s lacrosse goal scorer
Wednesday afternoon, but his three tallies were not enough as Wesley
College won its second straight with a 14-7 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference
victory over visiting Shenandoah.
Wesley (2-4, 1-1 PAC)
scored its first goal just 23 seconds into the contest and jumped
out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter to down SU (1-5, 0-2).
Burton
was the lone bright spot for the visitors as his second tally of the
game vaulted him past Shawn Scattergood ’99 for first place on the
all-time list. Scattergood had held the record with 84 goals.
In addition to
Burton’s
hat trick, Shenandoah received two goals from senior Yaquay Brooks (Annandale,
Va./Annandale)
and Chris Keller (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) chipped in with a pair
of assists.
Keller is now 30 points
from passing Scattergood for first place on the all-time scoring
list. The junior took Scattergood’s assist title away with a six
assist performance this past Saturday in a 20-13 loss at
Neumann
College.
The Hornets will host
their first PAC opponent of the season Friday night when
Cabrini
College
visits Shentel Stadium for a 6:30
pm
contest.
