Baseball

WINCHESTER, Va. Bridgewater College sent the SU baseball team down for the fourth time in the last five games Monday afternoon with a 13-4 non-league victory.

Bridgewater (11-11-1) wasted no time in earning its first victory over Shenandoah since 1991 by scoring one run in the top of the first and four more in the second. After SU (9-18) battled back to within two at 5-3 with a pair of runs in the third, BC broke the game wide open in the sixth by sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs on six hits.

The Eagles banged out 17 hits in the victory; all nine starters had at least one hit against one of three Shenandoah pitchers. Jamie Lawhorne finished 3 for 5 with two RBI and Grattan Shull 3 for 3 to lead the visitors at the plate.

Allen Norris improved to 3-2 this spring by giving up four runs on five hits and four walks in the first seven innings of the contest. He struck out seven before yielding to Shaun Brinkley for the final two frames. Brinkley gave up a single hit while facing just one batter over the minimum.

Brent Meixsell (Saylorsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) took the loss for the Hornets. He gave up eight runs (all earned) on 10 hits and four walks in 5.1 innings.

Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) and Dusty Crostic (Chesterfield, Va./LC Bird) both had two hits in four at-bats for SU.
