Golf Finishes 11th at Apprentice

Improves 10 Strokes from Monday’s First Round

WILLIAMSBURG , Va. – The SU golf team improved by 10 strokes Tuesday, but it was not enough as the Hornets finished 11th of 11 teams at the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Invitational at the Ford’s Colony Marsh Hawk Course in Williamsburg.

Shenandoah shot a 348 on day two over the 6732 yard, par 72 Marsh Hawk course to finish 29 strokes behind tournament host Apprentice School . Wesley College won the event with a 604.

Individually, sophomore Byron Pitts ( Nokesville , Va. /Home School) shot a day two best 82 for SU to finish in a tie with senior Jason Aud ( Mount Airy , Md. /Frederick CC) for 43rd with a two day total of 176. Pitts shot 94 on day one while Aud got to his total with a consistent 89-87. Sophomores Kevin Richards ( Denville , Va. /Morris Knolls) and Tim Detweiler ( Dumfries , Va./Middle Tennessee State) and rounded out the Hornets scoring golfers with an 89 and a 90, respectively. They tied for 46th with two day total of 177.

Shenandoah hosts a dual meet with SUNY-Delhi on Monday.
