Bridgewater Stops Women’s Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. – Bridgewater College used a big second half Tuesday afternoon to defeat Shenandoah 19-4 in non-league women’s lacrosse action.

Leading 5-0 at the break, Bridgewater (5-6) scored 14 more times in the final 30 minutes of play to dash any hopes of a second half comeback from the Hornets (1-7).

Junior Sarah Pritchett (Wolftown, Va.) was an equal opportunity killer for the Eagles; she scored four goals in each half of play to lead all scorers with eight points.

Senior Megan Tupper (Bowie, Md./Anne Arundel CC) led SU with three goals and an assist while sophomore Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) had two points on a goal and an assist.

Sophomore goalie Bridget Robbins (Baker, W. Va./East Hardy) had 12 saves for the hosts.

Shenandoah is back at home on Thursday evening for a 7:00 game against Trinity College.  


Men’s Lacrosse

WINCHESTER , Va. – The men’s lacrosse team also came up on the short end of the stick Tuesday evening; the Hornets lost 17-6 to Pennsylvania Athletic Conference foe Villa Julie College .

With the win, Villa Julie (5-5, 5-0 PAC) set up a showdown on Thursday with Cabrini College for the PAC regular season championship. The loss also eliminated Shenandoah (1-8, 0-4) from contention for the four-team season ending PAC Tournament. The tournament winner will gain an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Dan Velez led the Mustangs to the victory with a two goal, five assist evening and Bob Rinehimer added five goals and one assist. VJC had nine different people place their names in the scoring column.

Sophomore Elmer Baker ( Fort Montgomery , N.Y./O’Neill) led the Hornets with two goals and an assist while Jeff Paolozzi (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) and Matt Burton ( Ashburn , Va. / Woodbridge ) had two goals each.

Junior Dave Behan (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem) kept the hosts in it with a career high 25 saves. This stands as the fourth best performance ever for an SU keeper.

The Hornets host Catholic in a non-league contest Friday night at 7:30 .
