Men’s Lacrosse
WINCHESTER
,
Va.
– The SU men’s lacrosse team closed its first season at Shentel
Stadium Friday night the same way it opened it - winning a
non-league contest.
Shenandoah (2-9) snapped
its nine game losing streak with an 11-7 victory over
Catholic
University
(5-9). SU had not won since christening Shentel with a 15-14 win
over Centenary in the season opener on March 2.
The Hornets methodically
picked apart the Cardinals in Friday’s contest; SU scored the only
two goals of the opening period, extended the lead to 4-1 by
halftime and then put the game away with five more in the first 15
minutes after halftime.
Senior Yaquay Brooks (Annandale,
Va./Annandale)
was the offensive story in his final home game, scoring a career
high four goals including three in the decisive third period. Sophomore
Elmer Baker (Fort
Montgomery,
N.Y./O’Neill) added three assists while Chris Keller (Smithsburg,
Md.
/Smithsburg)
had a goal and an assist.
Ryan Welch (Glen Mills,
Pa.)
attempted to keep CUA close with five goals of his own, but it was
not enough as Catholic fell for the second straight time after
winning four in a row.
SU travels to
Eastern
University
Monday afternoon for its penultimate Pennsylvania Athletic
Conference match of the season.
