Win Second Straight as Ferrum ends Women’s Season

– The SU men’s lacrosse team got its second straight victory and
its first ever Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win with an 18-3
triumph over Eastern University Tuesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (3-9, 1-4) earned
the victory with a combined 18 points from the starting attack unit
of senior Matt Burton (Ashburn,
Va./Woodbridge),
junior Chris Keller (Smithsburg,
Md./Smithsburg)
and sophomore Elmer Baker (Fort
Montgomery,
N.Y./O’Neill). Baker had a career high seven points on six goals
and an assist, Keller added two goals and four assists and Burton
chipped in with four goals and one assist.
After leading just 3-1 at the
end of one, SU opened it up in the second period with five goals to
the Eagles (3-9, 1-5) one to take an 8-2 lead at the break. Despite
the sizeable advantage, the Hornets kept up the pressure in the
second half to register their biggest victory since a 24-3 victory
over Misericordia at the end of last season.

Saturday evening with a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game
against Misericordia. Game time at the

Women’s Lacrosse
FERRUM,
Va.
– Ferrum College ended the Shenandoah University women’s
lacrosse season Tuesday afternoon with a 10-7 victory in the Dixie
Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
No. 4 seed Ferrum (3-4) now
moves on to face top seeded
Christopher
Newport
University
in Saturday’s first semi-final round game.
FC got its second victory over
fifth seeded Shenandoah (2-9) in the past four days on the strength
of seven first half goals. After SU tied the game at 2-2 on a Sharon
Sparwasser (Baltimore,
Md./Kenwood)
goal midway through the first half, the Panthers went on a 5-2 run
over the final 15 minutes of the first to take a 7-4 halftime lead.
Ferrum then scored the opening
goal of the second to take the largest lead of the game, 8-4, with
25:00 remaining. Shenandoah twice cut its deficit to two goals, but
the Panthers answered with a goal of their own in each instance.
Senior Megan Tupper (Bowie,
Md./Anne
Arundel) led SU with three goals while Sparwasser added two and
Heather Lethbridge (Belvidere,
N.J../
Belvidere)
a goal and an assist.
Lethbridge
also had a team high 10 groundballs.
