FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (April
23, 2001) - The baseball team completed its first
season under Justin Cronk Monday afternoon with a
14-1 loss to Mary Washington College.
Shenandoah (17-14) traveled
to MWC with just nine players due to class
commitments and was no match for No. 7 in the
South Mary Washington (25-8).
The Eagles wasted no time
in seizing control of the contest; MWC answered
the Hornets run in the top of the first with five
of their own in the bottom half of the inning and
five more in the second.
SU scored its only run in
its first at-bat when Adam Beckerink (Lakewood, N.Y./Jamestown
CC) walked, moved to third on a Jeremy Schutt (Annandale,
Va./Prince George's CC) single and then scored on
Shane Lloyd's (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) single
to center.
Cronk's club was held to
just five hits on the day and just two after the
first inning. Freshman Josh Copp (Winchester, Va./James
Wood) had both of those hits. He was 2 for 3 on
the afternoon.
Beckerink fell to 0-1 on
the year by giving up nine runs (all earned) on
five hits and four walks in 1.2 innings. He also
struck out two.
