Men’s
Soccer
WINCHESTER,
Va.
– The SU men’s soccer team could not complete its comeback
Sunday afternoon as Emory & Henry pulled out a 3-2
non-conference victory.
E&H
(
2-1-1
)
saw its two goal lead evaporate as Shenandoah (2-3-1)
tied the game with goals from Scott Wright (Chesapeake,
Va./Va
Wesleyan) and Will Scott (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) in the 68th
and 80th minutes, respectively.
Despite
playing down a man for all but four minutes of the second half and
without the momentum, the Wasps came back to win it in the 87th
minute. Greg Stephenson took advantage of a Hornets defensive
breakdown to slip his 18-yard shot past diving keeper Tommy
Malinosky (Clearwater,
Fla./Central
Catholic) and just inside the right post.
SU
outshot its visitors 24-6, including 13-4 in the final 45 minutes,
but was denied its second straight victory.
The
Wasps gained their initial advantage on an unassisted goal from Will
McBryde in the 54th minute and on a penalty kick goal
from Chris Teague three minutes later.
