opened its 2001 fall season Tuesday afternoon with a 4th
place showing at the 19 team Elizabethtown Invitational in
Hershey
,
Pa.
The Hornets shot a 313 over the 7061 yard, par 71 Hershey Country Club
course to finish just 11 shots in back of team champion

Sophomore
Chris Fraser (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg) led SU in the
opening match with a two-over- par 73 to finish 2nd
overall. This is the highest finish ever for an SU golfer in
an 18 hole tournament. Classmate Kevin Richards (Denville,
N.J./Morris Knolls) and junior

/Greencastle) each shot a 78 and Jason Aud (
Mount Airy

/Frederick CC) an 84 to round out the Hornets scoring.

WINCHESTER

– The women’s soccer team was not as fortunate as the golf program
as the women fell 6-0 to
Methodist
College
in the squad’s
Dixie Conference opener.
The
Monarchs (6-1, 2-1) jumped on SU (0-4, 0-1) for three goals in
a 15 minute span midway through the first half to take a
commanding 3-0 lead into the halftime lockerroom. MC then
added three goals in the final 45 minutes to provide the final
margin.
SU
keeper Dana D’Agostino (Wantage, N.J./High Pointe Regional)
made 12 saves in the losing effort.

Shenandoah
is in action again on Thursday when they travel to
Harrisonburg
to take on Eastern Mennonite in a non-league match.

Volleyball
WINCHESTER
,
Va.
– The women’s
volleyball team gave coach Ellie Tanner her first ever victory
as Head Coach of the Hornets Tuesday evening with a 3-0
(30-18, 30-27, 31-29) victory over the College of Notre Dame.
The win is the first that Tanner, a 2000 SU graduate, has
earned since taking over the program full-time this past
January.
Senior
Brandy Kuykendall (
Winchester
, Va./James Wood) led
SU (1-5) in the win with 34 assists and 12 digs. Freshman
Jenny Gray (
Sumerduck
,
Va.

Liberty
) had a team high 13
kills and also played well defensively with 10 digs.
