BRIDGEWATER, Va.. – The men’s soccer team continued its winning ways Thursday afternoon with a 4-1 non-league victory at Bridgewater College. SU (5-1) has now surpassed last season’s win total with at least 11 games to play this fall.

Sophomore Jesse Fullerton (Catharpin, Va./Stonewall Jackson) opened the scoring for the Hornets in the 15th minute when he converted a feed from junior Will Scott (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge). After Bridgewater (1-5) tied the score on its only shot of the first half on an unassisted goal by Justin Gilliam, sophomore Akmed Mansaray (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) scored what proved to be the game winner for the visitors in the 64th minute.

Mansaray nailed a shot from right in front off of a feed from Stephan Greygor (Herndon, Va./Herndon) and then two minutes later gave SU an insurance goal when he took a Luis Collantes (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) pass and beat BC keeper Jon Boller.

Scott then capped off the scoring in the 81st minute with his tally off a Guy Auguste (Chesapeake, Va./Va Wesleyan) assist.

The men return home this Saturday to take on Salisbury University at 3:00.

Women’s Soccer

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Unfortunately, the women’s soccer team was not as successful as the men; Eastern Mennonite sent the Hornets down for the fifth time in five outings this season with a 5-0 victory at EMU.

The Royals (6-2) pelted SU keeper Jessica Padgett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ross) with 44 shots on the way to the victory. Padgett, who was playing in place of the injured Dana D’Agostino (Wantage, N.J./High Pointe Regional), had 13 saves in her first start of the season.
