– The women’s soccer team achieved its first victory of
the season Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over
Mary
Baldwin
College
.
With
the win, Shenandoah (1-6) snaps a seven match losing streak
that stretched back to the final game of the 2000 season. The
victory is also the first of new Head Coach Brandon
Padgett’s career.
SU
earned the win over the Fighting Squirrels (3-3) with two
goals early in the second half. Sophomore Jenny Driver (
Staunton
,
Va./Fort Defiance) gave the Hornets all the scoring they would
need when she beat MBC keeper Dedra Johnson from right in
front in the 55th minute. Seven minutes later,
senior Megan Tupper (
Bowie
,
Md.
/Anne
Arundel CC) gave the hosts an insurance goal when she ripped
one home from 15 yards out.
Jessica
Padgett (
Cincinnati
,
Ohio
/Ross)
made three saves in picking up both her first collegiate
shutout and her first college win.

complete a Shenandoah sweep Tuesday afternoon as the spikers
dropped a 3-1 (27-30, 30-14, 24-30, 28-30) Dixie Conference
decision to
Ferrum
College

Junior

led SU (2-8, 1-3) in the loss with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Senior Misty Towery (Martinsville, Va./Prince Edward) added 10
kills and 19 digs while classmate Brandy Kuykendall
(Winchester, Va./James Wood) a game high 36 assists to go
along with 25 digs.
Ferrum
(3-7, 3-4) came from behind in all three of their game wins to
take the victory. Amy Robertson led the Panthers with 14 kills
and 20 digs and Terri Craig added 21 assists.
