Women’s Soccer Shut Out  

Volleyball Drops Two Dixie Contests

Women's Soccer

WINCHESTER, Va.  The women’s soccer team was unable to get its first Dixie Conference victory of the season Monday afternoon as NC Wesleyan took a 4-0 victory.

NC Wesleyan (9-3-1, 5-1 Dixie) cruised to the win with three first half goals. Kristi McGuire scored what proved to be the game winner in the 17th minute when she had an unassisted tally from four yards out. Caitlin Sanderson and Katie Hodge then added goals in the 34th and 44th minutes to give the Bishops a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Camil Velazquez had the final goal of the game with an unassisted conversion in the 62nd minute.

Freshman keeper Dana D’Agostino (Wantage, N.J./High Pointe Regional) had nine saves for Shenandoah (2-11, 1-4) in the loss.

Women's Volleyball  

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The SU women's volleyball team also was unsuccessful Monday afternoon; the Hornets dropped Dixie Conference matches to Greensboro 3-0 (12-30, 27-30, 18-30) and Methodist 3-2 (30-24, 30-22, 24-30, 19-30, 8-15).

Shenandoah (2-13, 1-6) lost the Methodist contest after being up 2-0 in the best of five match. Freshman Jenny Gray (Summerduck, Va./Liberty) had a combined 18 kills and 12 digs in the two matches while senior Brandy Kuykendall (Winchester, Va./James Wood) added 39 assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Lesley Beard (Youngstown, O./Austintown Fitch) also played well with 11 digs.
