WINCHESTER,
Va.
– The men’s soccer team spotted visiting Shepherd the opening
goal Monday afternoon, but roared back behind four straight goals
from senior Will Scott (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) to take the
4-1 non-conference victory.
Shenandoah (8-6-2)
found itself down a goal early in the contest as Chris Daniloski
headed home a cross from Ray Williams in the seventh minute. This
would be the last shot Shepherd (8-6) would take until the middle of
the second half.
After peppering the Rams goal with
a number of excellent scoring opportunities, SU tied the contest
with just under five minutes to play in the first half as Scott
scored on a header of his own. Sophomore James Jackson (Chesapeake,
Va./Old
Dominion) provided the assist on the tally.
After the two teams battled back
and forth for the first 25 minutes of the second, Shenandoah seized
control with three goals in the final 20 minutes of play. Luis
Collantes (Alexandria,
Va./TC
Williams) fed Scott for goals No. 2 and 3 before Akmed Mansaray (Alexandria,
Va./TC
Williams) allowed Scott to cap off his excellent afternoon by
serving a perfect ball into the box for goal No. 4.
Scott is now four goals away from
tying the career goals mark held by Gino Aniceto ’96 and 10 points
from Aniceto’s career scoring record of 94 points. SU has a
minimum of three games left this season: at Averett on Sunday,
against Catholic next Monday and then in the first round of the
Dixie Conference Tournament on November 8.
