Soccer Runs Unbeaten Streak to Five

The SU men’s soccer team continued its winning ways Wednesday
afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Villa Julie in the Hornets final
non-league game of the season.
Shenandoah
(11-4-1)
is now unbeaten in its last five games with four wins and a tie. SU
achieved Wednesday’s victory by coming from behind for the second
straight outing.
After
BJ Miller gave the Mustangs (5-12-1)
the early lead with an unassisted goal in the 30th minute,
the Hornets rallied with five goals following intermission.
Sophomore
Jesse Fullerton (Catharpin,
Va./Stonewall
Jackson) opened the scoring for the visitors off a double assist from
Mohamed Sankoh (Alexandria,
Va./TC
Williams) and Scott Wright (Chesapeake,
Va./Va
Wesleyan) in the 50th minute.
After
Luis Collantes (Alexandria,
Va./TC
Williams) made it 2-1 with a tally in the 67th minute, Head
Coach Rob Kulton’s club pulled away with three goals in an 11 minute
span to turn the game into a rout.
Sophomore
Ben Scott (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins) had a goal and an assist during this
period. He scored the final goal of the game after assisting on Akmed
Mansaray’s (
Alexandria
,
Va.
/TC
Williams) game-winner in the 77th minute.

Women’s Volleyball
FREDERICK,

– The women’s volleyball team surpassed last season’s win total
with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-25) victory at
Hood
College
Wednesday evening.
Shenandoah
(5-17) received 10 kills from both senior Misty Towery (
Martinsville

Va.
/Prince
Edward) and freshman Jenny Gray (
Sumerduck

Va.

Liberty
).
Sophomore
Lesley Beard (
Youngstown
,
O./Austintown Fitch) had a team high 12 kills while Brandy Kuydendall

Winchester

Va./James Wood) added 25 assists.

women are in action again this Saturday with a Dixie Conference
mini-tournament at Chowan. The Hornets will face both host Chowan and
NC Wesleyan.
