WINCHESTER, Va. (October 25,
2000) - The Shenandoah University men's soccer
team snapped its nine-game winless streak with a
record setting 15-1 victory over Chowan College
Wednesday afternoon. Ten of 14 field players had
at least one point for Shenandoah (3-9-2), which
won for the first time since defeating then No. 9
in the nation Gettysburg College 1-0 on September
10. SU did tie two contests during that period, 1-1
against Randolph Macon on September 28 and 1-1
versus Bridgewater on October 16.
The goal-scoring outburst
breaks the previous record of 13, which was set
in a 13-0 triumph over Bluefield on September 29,
1992. Senior Tom Page (Annandale, Va./Annandale)
added a new individual record in the win as well.
Page, who had two goals and three assists on the
afternoon, set a new school record with for
career assists with his final assist of the day.
This assist, on a goal by Manuel Barcia (Fairfax,
Va./Oakton) in the 71st minute, gives
Page 21 over his four-year career with one game
to play. This breaks the previous record of 20
held by current Head Coach Rob Kulton and set
from 1985-1988.
Barcia was the leading
scorer on the afternoon with two goals and two
assists for four points.
