– After qualifying for Dixie Conference post-season play for the
first time in school history, the men’s soccer team fell in overtime
to nationally ranked Christopher Newport, 3-2.
Shenandoah
took an early lead as Akmed Mansaray (
Alexandria
,
Va.
/T.C.
Williams) scored on an assist from Will Scott (
Chesapeake
,
Va.
/Great
Bridge) in the 26th minute.
However, the Captains took over the lead when Billy Lucas
scored twice in the final seven minutes of the first half.
With
time running out on the Hornets, Jesse Fullerton (
Catharpin
,
Va.
/Stonewall
Jackson)
knocked one in on another assist from Scott to even the score with ten
minutes in regulation.
Unfortunately,
Shenandoah’s upset bid fell short in the overtime as Christopher
Newport scored the decisive goal in the 126th minute.
The
Hornets outshot CNU 18-14 in the contest. Keeper Tom Malinosky (
Clearwater
,
Fla.
/Clearwater
Catholic) had five saves.
Shenandoah
finishes the year with a
12-5-1
overall record and 5-3 mark in
Dixie
play.

– The volleyball team was unable to advance in the Dixie Tournament
as the Hornets were swept 3-0 (22-30, 22-30, 21-30) by

University

Freshman
Hannah Williams (

led SU in digs and kills with eight of each while senior Brandy
Kuykendall (
Winchester

Va.

Wood) had 21 assists.
Kristy
Crews had 13 kills and Courtney Carrington added 15 digs for the
Cougars.

Hornets finish their season with a 7-18 overall record and a 4-10 mark
