STUDENT ART ON DISPLAY IN SMITH LIBRARY

Students of Associate Professor of Art Geraldine Kiefer’s, Ph.D., art appreciation classes are displaying their projects, based on themes and motifs in Islamic art, in the Smith Library display cases. Functional objects, drawings and paintings are featured, with a variety of motifs, patterns and decorations all inspired by Islamic art in museum collections. Many of the works feature calligraphy, with inscriptions drawn from the Qur’an–the Muslim holy book–as well as the student artists’ own life experiences. Please stop by to enjoy these colorful, intricate and symbolic creations, which will be on view until Dec. 14.
