The women’s basketball team earned its first-ever ODAC victory Saturday afternoon with a 51-41 home triumph over Randolph College.The Hornets (3-6, 1-2 ODAC) held Randolph (2-4, 1-2) without a point for the first 6:03 of the contest and never looked back on their way to the first-ever conference victory.
Junior Sarah D’Amico did most of the damage for Shenandoah in the opening stanza with 13 of her game-high 15 points coming in the opening 20 minutes. The lead reached 15 points on a pair of occasions and was 13 following a Crystal Petrus 3-pointer 5:03 into the second, but Randolph had an answer. The WildCats clawed back into the contest thanks to a 7-0 run in just 1:33 of game time. Sophomore Holly Chittenden, who was the only other player in double figures with 11 points, hit a spinning layup with 2:43 left and then combined with Corin Scott to drain 6 of 8 attempts from the line down the stretch to seal the victory.
Chittenden led the victors on the boards with a game-high 10. She has four double-doubles this season. Shenandoah hosts former USA South Conference rival Mary Baldwin on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. in a non-league contest.
