American Marketing Association Interest Meeting

Are you a current student interested in the field of marketing? Want to learn more about what it takes to be a marketing professional in the digital age? If so, attend an interest meeting of the American Marketing Association on Monday, Oct. 6, from noon to 1 p.m. in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Room 230, to connect with fellow students, learn about the benefits of becoming a member and what the 2015 event calendar could entail. The Changing Tide: Implications of Recent Court Rulings and the NCAA on Universities and their Athletic Programs
Wednesday, Oct. 15, noon to 1:45 p.m.
Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium
The Shenandoah University Sport Management program, in conjunction with the newly formed Sport Business Club, will host a symposium on Oct. 15 in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium. The symposium is from noon- 1:45 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Important court cases such as O’Bannon v. NCAA, Northwestern University’ case presented to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the EA Sports licensing case will be discussed.
Featured distinguished guest speakers will include Mr. Paul Hewitt (George Mason University), Dr. Richard Southall (University of South Carolina), Dr. Brian Wigley (Shenandoah University), Mr. Doug Zipp (Shenandoah University) and Dr. Craig Esherick (George Mason University). The symposium will be moderated by Dr. Miles Davis (Shenandoah University).
This symposium will illuminate key issues surrounding these cases as they relate to the NCAA, athletic programs and academic institutions. This forum of distinguished scholars and sport administrators will probe the issues in more depth while interacting with the general public. The symposium panelists are experienced in their respective areas and will provide valuable insight, awareness and personal perspectives on the issues.

Entrepreneurship Week
Monday, Nov. 17 to Friday, Nov. 21
Join the business school in the largest celebration of entrepreneurship in the world, Kauffman Foundation’s Global Entrepreneurship Week. During the week, Shenandoah’s Institute for Entrepreneurship hosts a number of guest speakers and activities. This year’s speakers include Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, Maurice Jones and President of Trex, Ron Kaplan. More information about this event will appear in next month’s newsletter.
