On July 1, Eldon R. Lindsay Professor of Economics and Finance Clifford F. Thies, Ph.D., was interviewed by Robert Siegel of NPR’s “All Things Considered” on the subject of Mississippi’s default on its state debts during the 1840s. Thies examined this issue in a paper recently published in the Independent Review. What made the topic current was Greece’s default on its debt and an anticipated default by Puerto Rico on its debt.
