As part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, the Sport Business Club (SBC), the Alpha Kappa Psi business honor society and the Athletics Department co-sponsored the Shenandoah Cares Food Drive to benefit area residents in need. The food drive began on Nov. 6, 2015, and ended Jan. 18, 2016. Students dropped off donated items in SBC Canned Food Drive boxes located on all floors of Halpin-Harrison Hall.
“This experience provided students with a great opportunity to give back to the Winchester community,” said first-year MBA student and Sport Business Club member, Thomas Caracciolo. “With the Food Drive running approximately three months, all the individuals involved displayed true teamwork and persistence. No matter what tasks were assigned, various Sport Business Club students always handled what needed to get done. The drive was a great experience, and it provided students the chance to take charge and assume leadership roles.”
The drive collected 3,800 items, including canned and boxed food, diapers and baby formula. The efforts of the combined Shenandoah organizations made the drive a huge success and showcase the university’s commitment to community.
